HOW TO HELP ANIMALS AFTER YOU'VE GONE

A will is your way of ensuring that your wishes are carried out after your death. Your will should be reviewed regularly to make sure it accurately reflects your current wishes. A gift or bequest to the Animal Protection Association of Australia Inc (APAA) can be made in a new Will or, in some cases, by adding a codicil to an existing Will.

If you wish to make a bequest to APAA. please ask your Solicitor to incorporate the following Form of Bequest.

I bequeath the sum of $____ to the Animal Protection Association of Australia Inc for its general purposes and declare that the receipt of the Treasurer for the time being of the Animal Protection Association of Australia Inc shall be complete discharge to my executors in respect of any sum paid to the Animal Protection Association of Australia Inc.

A bequest does not have to be a large sum. Any amount can make a significant difference to our work for animals.

Have you thought about your pet’s welfare after you have gone?

We often think about how hard it will be to loose our pet .  But what about our pet loosing us?

There are no guarantees in life so it is prudent to make provision for the welfare of your pet in case something happens to you.

There are shelters that accept legacy pets  but the reality is your pet would be living in a  shelter with lots of other animals and not much love and attention (if any).  Life in a shelter just wouldn’t be the same and could  be quite traumatic for your pet.

Ask yourself the following question:

Who would be willing and who could I trust to care for my pet the way I do?

If you are planning to leave the care of your pet to your children  or a friend, make your wishes very clear and if necessary set out the conditions  you want for your pet’s welfare in your will.

Sadly, there are too many instances of adult children dumping their deceased parent’s pet at the pound.
