APAA’s Helping Hand Project There is a silent army of dedicated animal lovers around Australia who rescue animals. They may be individuals or small voluntary groups who care for wildlife and act as foster carers for homeless animals. They go quietly about their business of helping animal with little or no recognition or support. These dedicated people often juggle work and family commitments or are trying to survive on a pension. Homes are sometimes turned into makeshift animal rescue centres where the entire household revolves around the needs of the animals. Personal sacrifices are often made and meagre budgets are stretched to accommodate the needs of the rescued animals. How do we know this? Because APAA founder Sally Wilson has met many such people over the years. “I’ve been into their homes and seen first hand their dedication, their hardships and their sacrifices. Sacrifices like running up their credit card debt just to pay the vet’s bill.” says Sally. That’s why APAA set up the “Helping Hand ” Project to help these dedicated animal lovers. By easing the burden of these caring people we help the animals. Some cases of dog food, a supply of the expensive kangaroo milk formula or paying off the veterinary bill could make all the difference in the world to a dedicated animal lover.
