APAA Founder Sally Wilson | I have worked tirelessly for animals for most of my life. As a small child I rescued baby birds that had fallen out of their nests after storms. I even released butterflies and other insects that my brother kept in jars. I couldn’t bear to see these little insects deprived of their freedom and slowly dying. I grew up and moved on to rescuing dogs, cats, horses, birds and so on I’ve worked to stop the killing of whales back in the late seventies when Australia was still whaling. I exposed the free range egg scandal in NSW and I’ve spearheaded many successful campaigns such as stopping recreational duck shooting in New South Wales. I started a campaign in 1989 to save native animals killed on our roads and it’s still running today. I organised the first ever animal welfare conference in Asia. I’ve rescued animals in the aftermath of volcanos and mudslides in Asia. I’m not afraid to risk my life or get my hands dirty if it means I can help an animal. Animals I’ve helped range from tigers to a gorilla to the humble magpie. To me they’re all just as deserving. Animals cannot defend themselves against the cruelty of people. We must be their voice. I hope you will join me. APAA is a voluntary group which means not a cent of your donation goes towards wages, rent, or utilities. No money is filtered to a head office overseas either. That way, we keep our costs to a bare minimum to maximise the benefit for the animals we help. Gorutu wearing his new coat which will help to keep him warm during the freezing winter months |
